Kan Kru

Kan kru means "guru tray". Guru comes from the Sanskrit word meaning “dispeller of darkness”. The Kan Kru is used to honor or invite the energy of the guru, the lineage of teachers who have handed down the tradition of the spirit house ceremony.

A Thai silver crafted bowl is filled with a bed of dry rice. Inserted on the rice are: cigarettes, 5 sets of betel nut, white cloth, sea salt, 3 grains of rice, 108 baht, 6 candles and a rishi staff or personal symbol representing the teacher. The Guardian Angel statue is kept in the bowl until placed inside the spirit house.
