Removing the Curse
Before installing the spirit house on the platform the priest will clear the space to scare away any bad spirits, ghosts or negative lower energies. While chanting powerful words, nine pieces of scarecrow sticks made from bamboo or wood are placed on the platform. Five small offerings called baht phi are placed next to each scarecrow on four directions and in the middle.
Baht phi are small banana leaf cups filled with betel nut, rice, and a hardboiled egg with the shell removed, sweets, an opened orange, and spicy baby shrimp salad.
