Forests spirits
For many Thai people the natural boundaries of the forest around a village presents a dangerous and dark world, but forests are also a place of sustenance where the locals gather mushrooms, herbs and other wild plants to cook delicious curries! The safest passage is to have the forest spirits on your side, and you will almost always find a few spirit houses when hiking through a wild forest. Dirty and covered in plastic garlands, this large san jaothi of the forest guardian seemed very happy to have visitors take a moment to pay respect.
