When building a traditional Thai home the first foundation post is called a sao ek. This pillar represents the spirit of the tree that was cut to build the house. Before the house is built a ceremony is made and ribbons are ties around it, just like a spirit house.
This recycled wooden pillar reminds of the sao ek pillar; a beautiful connection to the original tree spirit from where it came.
